The programme in all its forms has received an enormous amount of support from all areas of the hospital and the local arts community. The opportunity for artists work to be seen by a significant audience has seen an increased number of submissions to exhibit each season.
Deborah Allitt
“My experience of exhibiting at the hospital has been very positive for me. It has been a high profile venue for showing my paintings as lots of all kinds of people pass by and are in some way touched by the work. It has made me think more about what impact my paintings might have on people, actually making them feel better or worse, and has made me very much want to make paintings that make people feel better!
I sold three paintings to members of the public as a direct result of exhibiting, and I was commissioned to make nine new paintings for permanent show in different areas of the hospital, about which I am delighted.
I have enjoyed seeing other artists’ work, of all kinds, in and around the hospital. I think it makes a huge difference to the experience of being in the hospital to have creative, powerful, beautiful things made by real people around.”
Chris Tree.
“I found exhibiting at the hospital a very rewarding experience. I think it is a valuable project to both patients, staff and artists. I like the way it is non commercial, but at the same time raising artists profiles and displaying their work to a broader cut of society than would maybe go to a gallery. I sold one piece from the selection I put in, which is a nice bonus. As an artist I would value any feedback from the people using the building, regarding own work and how artwork can affect the feel of the building.”
