A BREATH OF FRESH AIR Autumn/ Winter 2011 Visual Arts Season
“The drama of skies and hills and the ever changing mood of the Derbyshire landscape is the subject of these paintings. I love to be in the places I paint and I want my paintings to convey something of the feeling of freedom and pleasure that I experience when I am there.”
Street Life, Young people’s visions of Derby The Youth Forums at Derby Museums and QUAD came together to create this exhibition of photography inspired by Derby’s streets. The age of the participant’s range from 11 to 24 years – some are experienced photographers and some were introduced to photography through this project.

“I aim to find and depict the hidden drama and poetry of those landscapes that resonate with me, those places that have a hold on me. I like to think that my paintings turn these places into something magical, through painting from memory, with emphasis on emotion and experience.” www.heatherduncan.com
From his workshop in Wirksworth, Peter produces furniture, paintings and sculpture. He aims to give his work energy and a sense of rhythm, and create spaces that you want to explore. In these sculptures, cabinet making skills and tools are used together with painting techniques to produce unique pieces. His inspiration comes from the world around him, both seen and hidden.
DERBY CITY PHOTOGRAPHIC CLUB A thriving club for photographers with close to 100 members was founded in the 1980s. “Our programme is a mixture of visiting speakers, competitions and outdoor events. As a club we aspire to promote an active interest and participation in photography whilst encouraging members to pursue their own style and approach and to improve the quality of their work.” www.derbycitypc.co.uk
Theresa Kate Hempsall is a local textile artist with a passion for drawing, painting and colour who adores textures. She loves being able to use the things we see and do every day as a starting point for her inspiration. As a mother of three children she has used this to her advantage and developed domesticity into an art form. This particular collection of work focuses on the domestic task of washing. tkstitchandbake@googlemail.com
Artcore is a non-for-profit arts organisation lead by professional artists working with the local community of Derby. Paul utilises the full extent of the Derbyshire landscape exploring elements such as weather, colour, light, geology, reflection and refraction to challenge our perceptions of the environment and how we relate to it.
During 2012 Paul will hold a series of exhibitions at specially selected venues across the UK chosen for their historical and social significance. Paul has created a quintessentially English flower garden made up of 10,000 individual blooms crafted by hand.
